Photography News & New Music for Old Men

Happy Cinco de Mayo, I thought this was going to be a day of being outside and taking some great shots of spring but, the weather gods had other plans so you get a brand-new blog instead.

Photography:

1.    Gallery Showing: West Vancouver Art Museum April 12 to June 3 Featuring:   The Decisive Moment: Ema Peter
Architectural photojournalist Ema Peter has documented some of the most significant contemporary buildings in West Vancouver, the Lower Mainland, and around the globe for the past 15 years, garnering awards for her images and collaborating with top local and international architects. I think her work is just incredible, if you go to her website https://www.emapeter.com you will see some stunning architectural photography.

2.    Travelling with an iPhone:  If you have ever spent time wondering if you should take your iPhone 14 Pro on an upcoming trip to the Amalfi Coast of Italy rather than your camera with multiple lenses, I have an answer for you, or rather James Popys, a British photographer I follow, has taken his iPhone with him to the Amalfi Coast and here is a link to his usual humorous and blunt experience with the good, the bad and the frustrating.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GsEXLe_ggto

As it is Cinco de Mayo, I’m switching to music as I need to get in a festive spirit, break out the chips and salsa and crack open a bottle of tequila.  To get me (and you) in the mood I have selected a small selection of R&B from the past, some artists you know well, others are more obscure. Here we go with my latest edition of “New Music for Old Men”.

New Music For Old Men:

These selections are all old school R&B and Blues, some are not the HiFi quality we have become accustomed to but, I picked the best versions I could find on YouTube and they all got soul!  Many of these great musicians are long gone but a few are still with us, Ann Peebles is still going strong in her 80’s, Nalani Rothrock and Edie Angel are both playing concerts.  I book ended the list with Aretha at the start and The Godfather of Soul closing it out, please turn it up good and loud and have something with a little tequila and lime to get you in the mood.
